At around 12.15am ,Tuesday 19 September 2023, officers were called to a road traffic collision involving a car and a pedestrian on the M62.

Emergency services attended the scene, and sadly a man in his 30s was pronounced dead at the scene. His family are being supported through this difficult time by specially trained officers.

Enquiries are continuing to establish the circumstances of the man being a pedestrian on the motorway prior to being struck.

A 25-year-old man remained at the scene and was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. He has been released on bail whilst enquiries continue.

An investigation has been launched by GMP's Serious Collision Investigation Unit and enquiries are ongoing.

Officers are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed this incident;  or may have dashcam footage of the collision or of the pedestrian on the motorway; to make contact Greater Manchester Police.

The M62 between Eccles and Birchwood was closed in both directions whilst collision investigation work was undertaken.  We thank the public for their patience and understanding whilst we worked to establish the full circumstances surrounding this incident.
