Police responded to a report of a man carrying a firearm at the Coach and Horses pub on Eccles New Road.
Armed police descended on the area and a cordon was put in place across the road at around 7pm, however there was no evidence found of anyone with a firearm and despite extensive searches of both the pub and the surrounding area, the cordon was lifted just 20 minutes later.
Tensions are currently high after a gun battle took place less than a mile away in the nearby Clarendon area on Thursday.
Police have remained at the scene to continue their investigations and there has been an increased presence in the area to reassure the public.
It is thought by police that the call was a hoax with the malicious intent.
