POST YOUR SUPPORT FOR SALFORD VOLUNTEERS

Salford residents are being asked to say a huge thank you to the city’s volunteers as part of Volunteers Week (June 1 to June 7.)

The council has created a poster and is asking residents to display it in their window to show their support. It is also asking people to share their appreciation and stories about volunteering on social media.

A new section on the council’s website highlights volunteering opportunities which can be done now and opportunities for the future as coronavirus restrictions ease.

Salford Civic Centre will be lit orange for the week to thank the contribution of residents who give their time to improve the lives of people in their communities.

“In normal times volunteers give an amount of incredible support to our city but during the pandemic volunteering has really come to the fore” said Councillor Paula Boshell, Lead Member for Anti-Poverty, Neighbourhoods, Financial Inclusion and Equalities.

“People have stepped forward to make sure our most vulnerable residents have the vital support they need. The theme of the week is Inspire Others and Be Inspired and the response we have seen from Salford recently has been truly inspiring.

“I hope many people who have volunteered for the first time will continue to do so as coronavirus restrictions ease and we open up more activities and that the week will inspire others to consider the many opportunities available in Salford.”

 

Claire Roberts, volunteer centre co-ordinator at Salford CVS which leads on volunteering in the city said:

“Volunteers have helped to support our community in numerous ways during this pandemic. From phoning people who are isolated for a weekly chat, delivering food parcels to dog walking and much more, volunteers have ensured that help has gone to where it is needed. Volunteers have truly shown the Spirit of Salford.”

The poster can be found at www.salford.gov.uk/volunteers and both @SalfordCouncil and @VCSalford1 will be sharing stories about volunteers in the city on both Twitter and Facebook all week.
