There are reports of a firearms discharge having taken place shortly after 11pm on Weds 9th June at Great Cheatham Street West.
The road is currently blocked between Bury New Road and Great Clowes Street with a police cordon in place.
Police are diverting traffic away from the scene with bus services being re routed.
Anyone heading into the area is being asked to seek an alternative route.
Greater Manchester Police have said that no one was injured during the incident and that investigations are ongoing.
There was damage to a front window consistent with a firearms discharge.
There have been no arrests made so far.
A spokesperson for GMP said:

"Police were called shortly after 11pm on Wednesday 9 June to a report of shots fired towards an address on Great Cheetham Street West, Salford.
"Specialist officers attended and confirmed two shots had been discharged and damage had been caused to a front window.
"No one inside the address was injured.
"No arrests have been made and a scene remains in place while daylight searches get underway.
