    Madchester legend Paul Anthony Ryder (Brother of Shaun) has sadly passed away aged 58.

    Little Hulton born (24 April 1964) Paul's iconic baselines became part of the soundtrack of the late 80's and early 90's, a true pioneer of the classic Madchester sound which took the music scene by storm.

    Best known as one of the founding members of the Happy Mondays in which he starred alongside his brother Shaun, Gary Whelan, Mark Day and Paul Davis, he also was an accomplished actor, having quit the band to forge a successful career in the states. Paul acted in a number of films which include The Ghosts of Oxford Street, Losing it and of course, 24 Hour Party People.

    The band issued a statement on Twitter:

    “The Ryder family and Happy Mondays band members are deeply saddened and shocked to say that Paul Ryder passed away this morning A true pioneer and legend. He will be forever missed.

    “We thank you for respecting the privacy of all concerned at this time.

    “Long live his funk x”
