Salford City Council have warned mourners to be on their guard after fears that flowers have been stolen from gravesides in the city.

Grieving families have made sickening reports that both flowers and floral tributes have been taken from the side of Agecroft crematorium and from graves at Agecroft cemetery following recent funerals.

Officials from Salford City Council are now reviewing CCTV footage which covers the cemeteries and have informed Greater Manchester police.

Councillor David Lancaster, lead member for environment and community safety, said the council was taking the concerns very seriously.

“To steal flowers left after a funeral is despicable and shows a complete lack of thought for the grieving family at a very difficult time,” he said.

“We have alerted the police and made all our cemeteries staff aware of the allegation so they can be extra vigilant.

“If anyone has any information about this which could help with a prosecution, then please come forward and let us know or report it anonymously through Crimestoppers on 0800 555111."
