SALFORD COUNCIL WINS A MUNICIPAL JOURNAL ACHIEVEMENT AWARDS FOR ITS WORK ON REDUCING POVERTY

The panel of independent judges awarded the council with the Delivering Best Outcomes Award for work to reduce poverty in the city and Senior Management Team of the Year for building strong partnerships that are benefitting local communities.

Judges also highly commended the council in the Integrated Health and Social Care Category and also the Council of the Year award.

Salford City Mayor Paul Dennett said:

“We are extremely proud to be recognised nationally for our innovative work. Our clear, shared vision aims to create a fairer city for all.

“The anti-poverty taskforce has completed studies with people who have lived experience of poverty and they are helping to shape policy changes of the council and our partners to make the city a fairer place to live.

“But it would not be possible without the incredible work of our staff and partners – who work tirelessly to make the city a better place. They have gone above and beyond in a time when we have lost £198 million from our budget since 2010. That’s about £60,000 each and every day.

“We’re proud of what we have done to minimise the impact of these cuts on local people. Frontline services have had to be completely reshaped and we are trying to be as innovative as possible with this approach in a way that benefits local people.

 “Our test in developing new ways of working is whether it will make things quicker, easier and better for staff and residents.  Making these types of interventions and ensuring an innovative approach helps protect key frontline services and provides a better service to our residents.”

 

The awards gala night in London saw winners announced in 16 different categories across a wide range of council services. They included teams providing innovative integrated health and care, cultural services, housing, poverty-reduction, digital transformation, highways management, children’s services, communications, homecare, revenue-generation and public health.
