    Salford Libraries Live, which has been funded with £71,222 from the Arts Council England, runs until September 2019. The ambitious programme includes live theatre, music, visual and digital art; family shows; storytelling; top author events and hands-on creative workshops for people of all ages.

    Sarah Spence, Director of Libraries and Culture at Salford Community Leisure, said: “There's a world of exciting things happening in Salford Libraries and we are very proud of our libraries; they are exciting cultural places.   This partnership between the Arts Development, Libraries, Heritage and Music and Performing Arts services to show the local community that there are many interesting things happening at our libraries, both on and off the shelves.”

    Summer libraries Beano challenge, from July 14th (FREE)

    To celebrate the 80th anniversary of The Beano, get reading with the Summer Reading Challenge, and come along to some fantastic events. Meet authors, learn from illustrators, create a superhero and go on wild and wonderful adventures with storytellers and theatre shows. Sign up at any Salford library.

    To join in the Summer Reading Challenge, simply visit your local library and read any six books, collecting stickers along the way, helping you to discover Beanotown’s hidden treasure and complete the Challenge! You will also receive a collector's poster featuring Dennis, Gnasher and friends. Once you have read 6 books you’ll be awarded a certificate and a medal!     Salford Libraries Live presents Puffin Peter and Other Stories with Petr Horaçek (ages 5+)

    Saturday 14 July, 10am – 12 noon, Eccles Library and 2– 4pm, Swinton Library. Tickets are £5 each plus one free adult per child. Join the award-winning illustrator and author and discover how he brings his amazing characters to life. This is a talk and workshop for all the family where you will create your own version of Puffin Peter.

     Salford Libraries Live presents The Adventures of Pom (0-4s)

    Tuesday 24July, Swinton Library 11.30 - 12.15 and 1.30pm -  2.15pm for kids aged 0-4. £3.50 per person. This storytelling adventure for little ones and their grown-ups uses touch, sounds, scents and even taste to bring theatre to the youngest audience.  

    Salford Libraries Live presents Create a Reading Den

    Wednesday 25 July, 11am – 3pm at Salford Museum and Art Gallery.

    The museum is creating a summer reading den in the gallery to get children reading in the holidays. Help make a new structure that families will use all summer long. £1.50 per child, drop in, no booking required.

    Salford Libraries Live presents LEGO Stop Frame Animation with MADLAB (8+)

    Thursday 26 July. 10 – 12 at Eccles Library and 2 – 4 at Pendleton Library. Plan, shoot and edit your own stop-frame animation, bringing Lego characters to life. Bring yourself, an adult and even your own Lego pieces as long as you take them home again. Tickets are £5 each plus one free adult per child. Tickets include 1 free adult per child.

    Salford Libraries Live presents Create Your Own Superhero – A Comic Book Workshop with Tim Quinn (7+)

    Friday 27 July, 10–12 at Walkden Library and 2- 4 at Eccles Library. Tickets are £5 each plus one free adult per child. Tim Quinn is a comic book editor and illustrator who has worked at The Beano and Dandy before heading to the USA and becoming part of the Marvel Universe. There he worked on the X- Men, The Incredible Hulk and Spiderman.

    Salford Libraries Live presents Adventures in Storytelling (5+)

    Wednesday 1 August 12.30pm and 2pm at Salford Museum and Art Gallery.

    Join storyteller Pyn Stockman for captivating stories from around the world including mythical beasts and magical monsters. £2 per child (one adult free per child).

    Friday 10 August, 1.45  and  3.30pm at Pendleton Library. £3.50 per person. One Suitcase can tell a thousand stories…Especially when the suitcase belongs to this particular lady. Journey around the world with our well-travelled friend as she regales you with tales of fishermen, fairies, feasts and beasts, from Lancashire, through Poland and on to India! 

    Salford Libraries Live presents The Pirates of Scurvy Sand with Jonny Duddle (4-7s)

    Friday 17 August, 11-12 at Walkden Library and 2–3pm at Eccles Library. Yo ho ho! Calling all landlubbers! Come and celebrate the hilarious voyages of the Jolley-Rogers, the most intrepid pirates of the Seven Seas. Author and illustrator Jonny Duddle introduces his newest book ‘The Pirates of Scurvy Sands’ - come and discover his own pirate adventures, hear him read from the book and help him draw the perfect pirate! Tickets are £3.50 each plus one free adult per child.

    Salford Libraries Live presents Create your Own Book (6+)

    Pendleton Library, Thursday 23 August 1.30 – 3.30 pm. This is workshop for all the family. Use a range of different art techniques and your favourite characters, images, themes and colours to create a unique handmade book to take home. Tickets £3.50 each plus one free adult per child.
