We hope that this will go some way in supporting their work “to brighten young lives and make good citizens”.

Since opening in 1803, the club has become a vital part of the city’s history, culture, and identity. achieving cult status and famou after being featured on the cover of The Smiths' 1986 album, "The Queen Is Dead," which has helped to cement its place in music history.

The Salford Lads Club was established as a way to provide activities and support for boys in the area who were often from working-class families and may not have had access to organized activities or support systems. The club aimed to provide a positive environment for these young men to develop their social, physical, and mental well-being.

The club was founded by Robert Baden-Powell, the founder of the Boy Scouts, and a group of local businessmen who recognized the need for a place for young men to gather and participate in activities. Initially providing activities such as woodworking, boxing, and cricket, and over time, it has expanded its offerings to include music, drama, and other creative pursuits.

Since then, the club has evolved to encompass both young boys and girls and is just as popular today as it has been throughout its history.

The much needed funding will be put to good use for future generations of Salford Lads and Lasss.
