We all love to hear of Salfordians doing well and we are pleased to hear the news about 16 year old, Megan Holmes from Broughton who won a Gold Medal yesterday in the Great Britain Wrestling Championships which were held at Leigh Leisure Centre.
Megan won the Under 17s Gold medal in a tightly fought contest, consisting of two by two minute rounds with a 30 second break between rounds against a competitor from Bolton who was five kilos heavier.
Quote"I have been wrestling for eight years and I take it seriously with training and competitive bouts, my tutors at the British Wrestling Academy in Broughton were I train are great with me, and I would like to thank, David Ong, Olga McLoughlin and Oleg Druzhynets for their patience and helping me achieve my goals"
It is fair to say that Megan seems to have a great career ahead as she has already won a haul of wrestling medals including:
Four times British Champion, Four times English Champion, Scottish and Derbyshire Open Wrestling Champion and a host of other trophies, an incredible amount for such a young girl.
Quote"My dream is to compete in the Olympics and bring further medals back to Salford and after that hopefully a career in training female wrestlers of the future"
We wish Megan all the all the best and for bringing Gold back to Salford we salute you!
