As thousands of local youngsters find out their exam results today, it has been revealed that GCSE grades in Salford have improved by seven per cent this year despite the challenges of the pandemic.

The percentage of pupils achieving level 5+ in English and maths has gone up from 32 per cent last year to 39 per cent this year. There has also been a six per cent rise in the numbers getting level 4+ in English and maths from 52 per cent last year to 58.5 per cent this year.

Deputy City Mayor Councillor John Merry said young people and school staff should be very proud of their achievement.

    Quote

“Our young people and schools have faced an incredibly stormy year so to see these excellent results is like the sun breaking through the darkest of clouds,” he said.

“I am so proud of them and hope they will continue to achieve even greater things as they go on to the next stage of their education.”
