Housing association Salix Homes is hosting its annual Love Your Neighbourhood Week to encourage people to take pride in their communities.

The event runs from Monday, August 19 to Friday, August 23 and involves an action-packed week of activities across Salford.

The line-up includes community clean-ups, family fun days and even a clampdown on fly-tipping.

The fun kicks off on Monday, August 19 with a Youth Conference at Buile Hill Park, organised by Salix Homes’ Boost4Youth panel, which is made up of Salford teenagers who act as the voice of young people in Salford.

The Youth Conference will focus on some of the real issues facing young people today including knife crime, mental health and body image.

On Wednesday, August 21, Salix Homes’ dedicated Environment Team will be out and about in the community targeting fly-tipping, as part of the ‘Catch the Culprit’ campaign.

Illegally dumped waste will be cordoned off as a ‘crime scene’, while investigations will take place to identify the perpetrators. After last year’s event, Salix Homes officers were able to trace eight people who’d dumped their waste, who were subsequently issued with tenancy warnings.

Sue Sutton, executive director of operations at Salix Homes, said:

Love Your Neighbourhood Week is now in its third year and it’s always brilliant to see so many people getting involved and doing their bit for the community.

“We know the people of Salford are proud of this great city and Love Your Neighbourhood Week provides the perfect opportunity for people to take a bit of ownership of the environment on their doorstep and help us make a difference.

Salix Homes is passionate about building safe, clean and happy communities where our residents can be proud to live and work and we’ve got an action-packed week planned, providing fun for the whole family, so we’re urging as many people as possible to get involved and show a bit of love for their neighbourhood.”

Other events taking place include a family fun day at Ordsall Café on Tuesday, August 20 from 1pm-4pm and a community clean-up in Broughton on Friday, August 23, meeting at St James’ Church from 10am.

Salix Homes will also be crowning the winner of its Springboard Heroes Awards, when a community group will be awarded the £1,000 prize pot as voted for my members of the public.

Throughout the week, we’ll also be launching the recruitment campaign for our new Salix Homes Customer Committee, who will support us to make a difference in our communities in Salford.

The full line up of events is available on the Salix Homes website.
