Police were alerted to reports of gunshots fired on Cromwell Road in Eccles shortly after 12.30am today (Sunday 6 August 2017).
Police units were quickly dispatched within minutes and were soon joined by the forces helicopter hovering overheard. Upon arrival at the scene it was discovered that the target had been a house not far from the junction with Milton Street, windows were found to have been shattered with glass strewn on the ground and window ledges.
Up to 5 shots were fired in quick succession with at first many neighbours thinking the bangs were fireworks. Earlier in the evening they were being let off around the same area.
GMP have disclosed that there were reports of two men in dark clothing who were seen fleeing the scene on a moped, turning left and heading onto Nelson Street.
Fortunately nobody has been injured in the attack.
Local people are in shock and disbelief that this could happen on their own doorstep, the details surround the attack are still unknown and police enquiries are ongoing.
A 50 yard stretch of Cromwell Road was cordoned off but it has since been removed and traffic is back to normal.
