    Diversions are in place at the top end of Liverpool Street close to Clarendon Leisure Centre this afternoon and a huge police presence is on the ground in the area.

    Witnesses have described two individuals on a motorcycle chasing a car along Liverpool Street and then discharging a firearm at it.

    Greater Manchester Police have confirmed they have received reports of a shooting and have no released this statement.

    Officers are currently responding to reports of a shooting in Salford.

    Shortly after 2pm on Thursday 11 July 2019, police were called to reports that a number of shots had been exchanged between the rider of a motorcycle and the occupants of a car in Liverpool Street.  

    The occupants of the vehicle, a blue Renault Megane, fled the scene as did the motorcyclist.

    There are no reported injuries at this time. 

    No arrests have been made.  

     A scene is in place in Liverpool Street as police continue with their enquiries.

    Detective Inspector Joanne Kay, of GMP’s Salford District, said:

    Quote

    “There is a large police presence at the scene and officers will be there for some time carrying out their enquiries.

    “If you were in the area and you saw what happened, or if you witnessed anything suspicious, then please get in touch with us as a matter of urgency.”

    It is thought that the occupants escaped the vehicle unharmed.

    A second area around Port Soderick avenue has been cordoned off as forensics officers focus on a dark blue Renault Megane that appears to have a smashed rear window and bullet holes in the front windscreen.

    The timing of the incident came at around 3 pm as parents were picking up their children from the local Lark Hill Primary school.

    A cordon is in place between Fitzwarren Street and Cross Lane, drivers are being told to divert around the area where possible. The traffic restrictions are expected to be in place for the foreseeable future.

    Police are currently going door to door asking for the help of locals in the area with their enquiries.
