There were delays on the A57 Liverpool Road in Barton at around 7am this morning (10th August) as fire services dealt with a blaze in an industrial skip on the back of a lorry.

Congestion affected much of Liverpool Rd back to Barton Airport and Cadishead Way back to Fairhills Rd as firefighters fought to bring the fire under control.

A number of bus services had routes diverted.

A photo posted by Ben Walmsley on Twitter showed the extent of the blaze.

    A spokesperson for GMFRS, said:

"Just before 7am this morning (Wednesday 10th August), two fire engines from Eccles and Sale fire station were called to reports of a vehicle fire involving a large wagon on Liverpool road, Eccles.

"The crews arrived quickly at scene and worked to make the area safe. Firefighters are using a breathing apparatus, hose reel and short extension ladder to extinguish the fire.

"Firefighters have been in attendance for around an hour and are still at the scene."
