The source of the unknown pollutant is not yet known but it is seemingly affecting parts of the River Roch and further downstream into the River Irwell where a layer of white foam can be seen.
Fortunately the foam has quickly started to dissipate since earlier this morning when it was first spotted and reported on social media.
Salford Council has responded by saying that investigations are now underway to determine the source, it has also been advised that members of the public do not handle the foam until the source can be determined.
There have been concerns raised about wildlife in the river but so far it would seem that have been no reports.
We have received reports of white foam in the River Irwell. We have informed @EnvAgencyNW who are now on their way to site to investigate. We have asked to be kept informed of developments and will advise residents accordingly.
