Salford housing association Salix Homes has scored a hat-trick of nominations in the prestigious Northern Housing Awards.

Salix Homes has been shortlisted in three categories in the Northern Housing Awards, which recognise the achievements of housing providers in the north.

Social housing development Joan Lestor House in Walkden has been named as a finalist in the Best Development for Social/Affordable Rent category.

Salix Homes transformed the derelict former women’s refuge into nine apartments for social rent – some of the first new, social housing to be created in the area for many years.

It has also been shortlisted in the Best Digital Transformation category in recognition of its technical innovation and digital modernisation strategy.

Salix Homes’ digital journey has seen the landlord launch a ground-breaking digital repairs service – MySalix - incorporating innovative chatbot technology; and become the first housing provider in the UK to fully embrace the public cloud.

The Salix Homes Customer Committee is also in the running for the Best Resident Involvement Initiative gong. The Committee was launched last year in a bid to give tenants greater influence in how housing services are provided.

“The past 12 months has been a year like no other, but despite the challenges posed by the ongoing Covid-19 pandemic, we have continued to make a difference, improve housing services and transform lives and communities for our customers in Salford.

“We’ve created new, desperately-needed homes to help tackle the housing crisis, established our pioneering Customer Committee and pushed on with our plans to become a truly digital organisation, equipped for the demands of a modern world, so to be recognised for our efforts in all these areas in the prestigious Northern Housing Awards is a real honour and is testament to all the hard work of our colleagues and partners.”

The winners will be announced at a virtual awards ceremony on Thursday, May 13.
