At approximately 11pm last night (Wednesday 28 June 2023) officers responded to reports of an assault in which a man in an alleyway on Mather Way in Pendleton, Salford.
NWAS also attended and took the man to hospital, where he received treatment for his injuries, which are not believed to be life-changing or life-threatening.
A Section 60 stop and search order was implemented last night and will continue to run throughout today. This order enables officers to stop and search a person or a vehicle for weapons without suspicion.
Detective Inspector Steve Hughes said:

"We understand that members of the local community are going to concerned regarding this incident, but we do believe that it is a targeted attack and there is no threat to the wider community.
"However, there will be an increased police presence over the next few days, as we endeavour to trace the offender and bring him into custody. We have also implemented a S60 for the next few hours (see map), which allows us to stop and search people or vehicles for weapons.
"We are keen to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the incident, or who has CCTV, doorbell or dashcam footage of the area at the time of the offence.

The S60 stop and search order covers Nursery Street, Seedley Road, Fitzwarren Street, Heywood Way, Hankinson Way, Belvedere Road and the A6.
