Yesterday the country learned the sad news of the passing of a national hero. A man who with every step forward carried our country with him upon his shoulders, during the worst of the Coronavirus pandemic.
He raised Millions in support of our NHS during his legendary 100 laps of his garden but much more than this, he raised a nations spirits during the worst of times and for that a nation truly weeps upon his passing.
In recognition of the heroic efforts of both he and our cities NHS heroes, Salford City Council will turn the Civic Centre Red, White and Blue in their honour.
A poignant touch and a fitting tribute to a man who fought on not only the battlefields of Burma but in the more recent battle against the virus which would ultimately take his life.
This evening the PM, Boris Johnson, has urged everyone in the country to stand on their doorsteps at 6pm to clap in his remembrance of his life.
A truer Knight there is yet to be, even in his frailty he stood tall and proud and shone a light to a better future with every step forward he took.
Our nation mourns a true legend this evening.
