It seems that the Eccles branch of the beleaguered retailer will not be saved as it is scheduled for permanent closure on Thursday 14th September 2023.
The news comes a day after rival retailer B&M bought up to 51 other Wilko stores in a deal worth up to £13 million, the name was not part of the deal so the stores will rebrand once the sale is completed.
The list of stores purchased by B&M has not been released as yet, although it is expected that the Pendleton store will soon meet with the same fate, although a closure date has yet to be confirmed.
The raft of store closures in the coming week will lead to to 1,016 redundancies, with further job losses affecting warehouse and service centre staff.
Administrators at PwC took over Wilko last month, after attempts to sell the entire business failed. They have aimed to sell as many stores as possible in order to realise value for the retailer’s creditors.
