    Salford News

Both carriageways of the M602 were closed this morning after reports of a person having fallen onto the carriageway from a bridge between junctions 1 and 2 of the busy motorway. The Westbound carriage way has since fully reopened and the Eastbound currently remains closed but it is thought that it too will reopen by the afternoon.

It is unclear at this moment as to if the person has survived and emergency crews are currently on scene dealing with the situation. A rapid response unit and the air ambulance were both been deployed.

GMP have put out the following update via Twitter.

    Quote

"Police are on scene at the incident on the Eastbound Carriageway #Gilderbrook M602.

"If you are about to set off please avoid the area.

"We will keep you updated. Those stuck in the traffic behind the incident please wait instructions from Police. Please do not breach the block."

Motorists were told to avoid the area if they could and find alternative routes.

The A57 Liverpool Rd, Bentcliffe Way, Eccles New Rd and A576 Gilda Brook Rd became extremely congested and motorists were advised to avoid the area if heading that way.

Our thoughts are with the person and their family at this time.
