  • THREE MEN ARRESTED AFTER DISTRACTION GRENADE THROWN IN SALFORD

    Shortly before 12.30am on Friday 18 May 2018, police were called to reports than an explosive device had been thrown at a house on Beech Lawn Close in Langworthy.

    A distraction grenade was thrown towards a house before the offender fled down an alleyway towards Eccles Old Road. 

    Bomb disposal officers were deployed and the exploded device was safely removed from the area.

    A controlled explosion was later carried out.

    Shortly afterwards at around 1.20am, police received a report that shots had been fired on Quayview in Salford Quays.

    Officers attended and found damage consistent with a firearm having been discharged.

    Today (Sunday 20 May 2018), three men – aged 20, 22, and 26 – have been arrested on suspicion of the possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life.

    They have also been arrested on suspicion of causing damage to property with intent to endanger life.

    They all remain in custody for questioning.

    Detective Chief Inspector Amanda Delamore, of GMP’s Salford district, said:

    “While we have made arrests and are currently questioning three men, our investigation is still in the early stages and enquiries are very much ongoing.

    “We continue to believe that these were targeted attacks and extra patrols remain in place in the surrounding areas. Please do approach them with any questions or concerns you may have.

    “As our investigation continues, I would urge anyone with any information that could assist our investigation to please get in touch.”
