Three people escaped with their lives after a fire raged through a semi-detached home in Walkden late on Monday (13th Aug).

The blaze is thought to have started at around 11am on the first floor of the Lakeside Avenue home, which led to one man having to jump from a first floor window to escape, breaking his ankle in doing so.

Surrounding homes were checked to ensure the fire had not spread to them and two of the three casualties were taken to hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation.

    A spokesperson for GMFRS said:

“At 11.21pm, three fire engines from Bolton Central and Farnworth were called to a house fire in Lakeside Avenue, Walkden.

“Six firefighters wearing breathing apparatus are currently extinguishing the fire involving the ground floor and first floor of a semi-detached property using three hose reels and one jet.

“Three people were self-rescued prior to the arrival of the fire service.

“Crews are also monitoring neighbouring properties to ensure there is no fire spread.”
