A celebrity football team featuring stars from Coronation Street, Emmerdale and Hollyoaks will take on a team from Shoosmiths in a unique fundraising day this weekend.
Jet2 Allstars, who are made up of soap stars both past and present and also some ex-footballers and celebrity friends will compete against lawyers and representatives from Manchester based charity Mustard Tree in the special match which comes as part of a family fun day this Sunday April 2.
The community event at Monton AFC, which also features a fun fair, raffle and food stalls, will aim to raise much needed cash for Mustard Tree. Visitors will have a chance to win two flight tickets to travel anywhere in Europe which have been donated by Jet2.
The Allstars only play a handful of matches each year, and their line-up is dependent on filming commitments on the day.
In the past the team has featured a line-up including Corrie stars Alan Halsall (Tyrone), Andy Whyment (Kirk), Sam Aston (Chesney) Hollyoaks’ Nick Pickard aka Tony Hutchinson, Ashley Taylor Dawson (Darren Osbourne) and Owen Warner (Romeo Nightingale).
Mustard Tree, who have been Shoosmiths’ designated office charity for the last year, works to create opportunities for people to help themselves through providing practical support, friendship, connections into work, improvements to health and wellbeing plus new experiences to encourage aspiration.
Recently, the demand for services provided by Mustard Tree has reached an unprecedented level - each month they are seeing footfall of almost 10,000 people. The cost-of-living crisis continues to put pressure on their services, with more people requiring the help of the charity on a daily basis.
Andria Stylianou, Shoosmiths trainee solicitor, said:

“The Shoosmiths Manchester Charity Committee are extremely proud to support Mustard Tree; an incredible charity in the heart of Manchester that seeks to create opportunities for people, whilst aiming to combat poverty, inequality and homelessness.
“One of Mustard Tree’s key values is ensuring dignity is upheld for all, which resonated with the Manchester Charity Committee on our visit to their HQ. Seeing the operations of Mustard Tree first hand demonstrated how integral and impactful their values are, which played a part in choosing them as our charity partner. We look forward to a fun event ahead but most importantly supporting Mustard Tree and contributing to their fantastic work.”
Jack Barton, Mustard Tree Communications Manager said:

“Our charity has seen an unprecedented rise in need since we kept our doors open during the Covid-19 pandemic. From providing crisis support during the height of lockdown to focusing on homelessness prevention since restrictions were lifted, we are now supporting more people than ever through training, debt advice, vocational courses and access to low-cost food, furniture and clothing.”
“Having the support of Shoosmiths enables Mustard Tree to help more people in more meaningful ways, and we’d like to thank them for all their support in helping our charity combat poverty and prevent homelessness across Manchester and Salford.”
The family fun day will take place from 12noon to 5pm at Monton Amateur Football Club Granary Lane, New Worsley M30 8JN and the match will kick off at 2pm.
