Detectives from Greater Manchester Police's dedicated team to tackle organised crime in Salford are speaking to a man and woman in custody after a shotgun was recovered during a warrant in Little Hulton.

At around 7.30am earlier today (Friday 11 June) officers from the local neighbourhood team raided an address on Carrfield Avenue where a viable shotgun was seized and taken away in evidence.

A 48-year-old man and 54-year-old woman have been arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm and are currently being interviewed.

The action is part of GMP Salford's long-running wider operation into organised crime in the city - codenamed Arctic.

Members of the public with concerns or information are asked to continue reporting to police in confidence.

Detective Inspector Rebecca Mills, of GMP Salford's Operation Arctic, said:

    Quote

"Another potentially lethal weapon that we believe to be illegally possessed has been removed from suspicious hands this morning as our work to keep our streets safe continues.

"Our team across Salford, in partnership with the local authority and specialist units across the Force, work tirelessly to remove such firearms from the reach of criminals to ensure that crime in the city remains on a downward trajectory in terms of gun crime."
