The car was later found burnt out on Falcon Drive.
Police are appealing for witnesses and have released CCTV images of a man they want to speak to in connection with the incident.
Detective Sergeant Mark Toker of GMP’s Salford Borough said: “These men brazenly targeted a shop-owner in the middle of the day, brandishing weapons, and it was fortunate that he was not hurt.
“The man in the CCTV image is wearing a balaclava, but I’m hoping it may jog someone’s memory and I would urge you to get in touch if you have any information.”
