Today we called in at the Salford Unemployed Resources Centre, on Liverpool Road, Patricroft, to hand over £80, part of the money that was raised from the sale of the Brian Gorman artwork to help fund their Breakfast Club and Emergency Food Bank.
We spoke to John Howard one of the staff there who told us that the centre provides much needed, support services, giving advice on benefits, housing, law, disability etc as well as a Breakfast Club which gives free breakfasts to around 10 people a day.
Ellen Marker who is in charge of the Breakfast Club told me that the club offers a lifeline to many people, with it being a meeting point for many of them, often single, elderly men although females do attend as there is no rules as to who can attend.
The breakfast can vary as too how much food they have, it can be cereal one day, bacon and eggs the next but the main thing is not only are they getting fed but have companionship for a few hours a day.
They are a member of Fare Share, Manchester who provide an amazing service distributing food parcels, meals and snacks to over 232 charities and community groups in Greater Manchester.
We than called in at The Mustard Tree. Eccles and handed over £80 to staff member, Georgia Breen who told us:
Quote
"We are really grateful for this money which will be spent on much needed food for our members, each day the queues are getting bigger as people face even more hardship, on Friday we served 99 people with food, a massive increase in the past few months.
Also, I would like to thank John Mottershead, Brian Gorman for their kindness, and to Salford Media for highlighting the need for food banks"
Tomorrow we shall be calling in at The Emmanuel Church on Langworthy Road to drop the rest of the money off to help their food bank carry on.
So, if you have any spare tins of food, fruit, toiletries etc why not drop them off at your local food bank, these people using them really need our help, so please...do what you can.
