Two men have been charged with section 18 assault after an attack carried out upon two prisoner officers as they left work at Sodexo's troubled HMP Forrest Bank prison in Agecroft on Tuesday 20th July.

Jordan Taylor aged 26 from Chomlea Manor, Claremont Road, and Jack Thompson aged 26 of Withing Road in Whalley Range, have both been charged with section 18 assault and criminal damage.

A third man was released without charge pending no further action.

The attack took place shortly after 8pm as the officers were ending their shifts. They were attacked by a masked gang carrying baseball bats. One officer sustained an injury to his arm and an attempt to mow down the second officer was made with a car which they used to crash through a security barrier.

The visitor centre of the prison also sustained damage to windows during the attack.
