Love Your Neighbourhood Week, which ran from August 7 – 11, involved a series of activities designed to encourage Salfordians to show love for their area, including litter picks, community clean-ups and garden maintenance workshops.
Salix Homes’ Neighbourhood Teams joined forces with residents, councillors, local businesses and partner agencies to clean-up the area and encourage people to take pride in their communities.
Volunteers also filled eight skips full of rubbish and the housing association’s Environment Team cleared a mountain of fly-tipped waste, including old furniture and garden waste.
Warren Carlon, service director for communities at Salix Homes, said:

“The people of Salford are well known for taking great pride in this city, and they certainly didn’t disappoint when it came to mucking in and helping out.
“Our first ever Love Your Neighbourhood Week has been a great way of bringing people together to take pride in their surroundings for the benefit the whole community.
“I am confident that the success of Love Your Neighbourhood Week has reminded everyone of the good that can come from taking ownership over their surroundings and persuaded the small minority to think twice about keeping the area tidy for the benefit of themselves and their neighbours.”
Clean-ups took place in Salix Homes neighbourhoods across the city including the High Street area in Pendleton where volunteers - including local Councillors John Warmisham and Gina Reynolds along with local businesses NJ Cook Removals and Alan Franklin Builders – filled three skips full of rubbish.
The week culminated with a family fun day at Ordsall Café, which saw the whole community come together to take part in a range of activities including giant games, face painting and a visit from Ranger Rob and his menagerie of reptiles.
