The Environment Agency put homes around parts of Worsley Brook on a flood alert after river levels rose rapidly at the Chestnut Road river gauge as a result of localised thunderstorms.
The alert has now been removed due to receding water levels. River levels have now fallen below the flood risk threshold. However, a Flood Alert remains in force for the wider area, so flooding may still affect roads and low lying land.
It was believed there was a possibility of flooding for properties close to Worsley Brook as further thunderstorms are forecast during the day and evening.
The pathway between Cypress Road and Riding Fold Lane was left flooded and impassable as water levels rose ever higher.
At one point the water levels were a few inches from breaching and flooding properties on the stretch behind Alder Forest Avenue, some gardens along the path of the river had flooded due to weaknesses in the walls allowing water to exit into them.
A representative from the Environment Agency was knocking on doors to warn local people of potential flooding and reassuring them that they were closely monitoring the situation.
Incident response staff are closely monitoring weather forecasts and river levels and will issue (further) flood warnings if necessary.
Stay aware in case further warnings are issued.
