Lurching through Morrisons car park this morning When all at once I saw a crowd, A host, of golden scooters, well not all golden obviously in fact none were but, bear with me.
I was transported back to my gilded youth when I was the possessor of several scooters (OK not all mine as Paul Kenny and the Headmaster at De Las Salle School will testify, in fact he did!).
I started off with a Lambretta 125 LD which was like driving a tank, then a Li 150 and for a glorious week in Summer a TV 175 which belonged to a pal John Brady who had kindly loaned it me, and yes he was aware that I had it.
My swan song involved a Zundap Bella scooter and the doors of The Weaste Hotel pub, I have drawn a veil on that episode.
Today's meeting was organised by The Salford Knights Scooter Club who do an annual run to Salford Quays every St Georges Day, with scooters both old and new taking part and it is a fantastic sight.
So if you have a love for all things Mod, scooters, Parkas, Tonic suits, Fred Perry's, Tootal scarfs, the music and the attitude then get on down to Salford Quays today.
Think of Jimmy in Quadrophenia... channel that spirit and enjoy this day
