At around 9.25pm on Thursday 28 June 2018, a woman was crossing Chester Road at a pedestrian crossing near to the junction of Manson Avenue when she was involved in a collision with a silver Ford Mondeo.

The pedestrian, who has since been formally identified as 24-year-old Emma Galton from Sale, sadly died at the scene despite the best efforts of emergency services.

A 28-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender. She remains in custody for questioning.

Enquiries remain ongoing to trace the driver of the silver Ford Mondeo which fled the scene immediately after the collision.

Paying tribute to Emma, her parents said:

“We are completely devastated to hear of our eldest daughter Emma’s untimely death. We know she is at peace now in heaven with the Lord Jesus.

“We would like to take this opportunity to express heartfelt thanks to everyone involved in the investigation and to everyone that helped our son to get back from his holiday so that he could be with us at this heart-breaking time.”
