GREAT SCOTT! - DON'T FORGET THAT THE CLOCKS GO FORWARD BY AN HOUR THIS SUNDAY AS BRITISH SUMMER TIME BEGINS

You don't need a DeLorean time machine to go forward in time this weekend as Salfordians are set to lose an hour in bed  when British Summer Time officially starts in the UK at around 1am during the early hours of Sunday morning (28th March).

This means that at 1am, the time will skip forward to 2am to allow for longer periods of daylight, but don't worry you will get to make up that hour in sleep later on in the year as clocks revert to GMT at the end of October.

Let's face it, it has a pretty miserable start to 2021 and the weather certainly hasn't helped.

There are reasons to be optimistic though - spring is finally on the horizon and we can already see the beautiful sight of golden daffodils and cherry blossom trees along our streets and fields.

The clock change was initially rolled out to save energy for the working day.

The extra hour means we will see darker mornings but in the evening, it will remain brighter, meaning less electricity would be needed for workers to continue their toil into the later hours.

The practise of changing the clocks began over 100 years ago, when parliament passed the Summer Time Act in 1916, creating what we now know as British Summer Time.

In 2021, the summer solstice vis set to fall on Monday, June 21, marking the start of summer. The summer solstice will take place at exactly 4.31am in the morning.

After a long and painful Winter, many in Salford will be looking forward to the warmer months ahead with the hope of an end to lockdowns and a bit of normality restored in their lives.

A bonus of longer warmer days is that increasing UV levels help stimulate the production of Vitamin D also known as the Sunshine Vitamin, which some doctors have claimed helps to boost the immune system and protect against viral infections. Something which is extremely important these days.
