An unnamed MP in his 50's has been arrested on suspicion on rape and sexual assault charges and is said to currently being held in custody.
The charges relate to a report made in January 2020 that the MP had carried out the alleged offences between 2002 and 2009 in London.
The MP has reportedly been told not to attend parliament whilst the investigation is underway.
A spokesperson for the Conservative Party, said:

"The Chief Whip has asked that the MP concerned does not attend the Parliamentary Estate while an investigation is ongoing," said a Conservative whips office spokeswoman.
"Until the conclusion of the investigation we will not be commenting further."
The Met said:
Quote"A man was arrested on suspicion of indecent assault, sexual assault, rape, abuse of position of trust and misconduct in a public office."
The latest allegations have been revealed on the same day Prime Minister Boris Johnson told his ministers to focus on cracking down on crime.
