Salford councillor Andrew Walters has reportedly quit the Liberal Democrat's to go solo ahead of next months local elections in Salford, in a move which he says is in the best interests of his constituents.

He will now stand against Adam Carney who is standing for the Conservative Party, Chioma Mgbeokwere representing Labour and James Twells who will now represent the Lib Dems in the political battle for Kersal and Broughton Park.

Mr Walters was the first Liberal Democrat to take a seat on the Council since they were dramatically ousted from the city council by Labour in the 2010 elections.
