  • AN ELDERLY WOMAN HAS DIED AFTER BEING HIT BY A TRUCK IN MANCHESTER

    Shortly after 3.20pm Thursday (24 March 2022), officers were called to a report of a collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian on Kingsley Road, at the junction with Church Road.

    Emergency services attended and despite their best efforts, sadly a 90-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

    The collision involved a Merecedes Benz truck and the woman who was crossing the road at the time.  The vehicle initially left but shortly afterwards returned to the scene.  A 31 yr old man was arrested on suspicion of causing death by driving without due care and attention and has since been released under investigation.

    The road was closed for some time whilst enquiries were carried out by specialist officers.

    PC Karl Horner, from GMP's Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said:

    "This was a tragic incident that has resulted in an elderly woman losing her life and our thoughts remain with her family are this difficult time.

    "We immediately launched an investigation and the road was closed for some time while we carried out a detailed investigation to bring the woman's family and loved ones the answers they need.

    "We're appealing for anyone who may have any information, may have seen anything or has any dashcam footage, to get in touch with us.
