A man has been charged with wounding three people and attempting to wound two others at a Starbucks in the Arndale shopping centre, Manchester, in an incident dating back to October 2019.

The Arndale was completely shut down at the time with no one allowed to enter, police cordoned off the area and a video released online showed a man lay on the ground whilst being detained by officers.

Raphael Chevelleau (16/12/1978), of no fixed abode, has been charged with three counts of section 18 assault and two counts of attempted wounding relating to four women and one man - aged between 21 and 60.

He remains detained under the Mental Health Act and is due to appear at Manchester Magistrates' Court on Friday 11 June.

On Friday 11 October 2019, police were called to reports of people being stabbed at the Arndale centre.

    Three people were injured.
