A spokesperson for the Op Dragonfire team said:

“We suspect this piece of equipment, the legitimate use of which is firing lines between ships, was used to launch drinks cans full of contraband over prison walls and into the exercise yards.
“Fighting, preventing and reducing this type of crime is of great importance. The sale of contraband fuels further offending amongst prisoners, subsequently putting prison officers and staff at risk.
“GMP will continue to work closely will colleagues from partner agencies, including the Regional Organised Crime Unit, Her Majesty’s Prison and Probation Service and our local prisons, to disrupt organised criminals responsible for these offences.”
Anyone with information about this type of crime should contact us quoting Operation Dragonfire via gmp.police.uk, 101 or the independent charity - Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800 555 111.
