Update 19:30 - All lanes have now been reopened and traffic is flowing freely

Update 18:50 - Two lanes have now been reopened although one remains closed, traffic has started to flow again but things are still moving slowly so expect delays and avoid the areas if at all possible.

Drivers are being advised to avoid the M60 Motorway around the Trafford Centre after what is being described as an ongoing incident on the top of Barton Bridge has caused the motorway to become closed and traffic to be held by police.

Vehicles currently trapped are being diverted off the motorway at Junction 10 slip road and the current advice is to use an alternative route until further notice and the incident has been dealt with.

It is not yet known what the incident is but the police helicopter has been deployed and is assisting.

The traffic is currently backed up towards junction 8.
