  • POLICE CONFIRM THAT ONE PERSON HAS DIED AND TWO HAVE BEEN SERIOUSLY INJURED IN A TRAGIC ACCIDENT ON THE M602 THIS MORNING

    Police have now confirmed that tragically one person (a man) has been killed and two more have been seriously injured as the result of a collision between two cars close to Junction 2 of the M602 this morning.

    Emergency services were called at around 11:05am after being told of a crash at Junction 2 on the East Bound carriageway of the M602. 

    A spokeswoman for Greater Manchester Police said:

    "We were called to a road traffic collision at 11.51am.

    "It was just before junction two."

     

    Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue sent two fire engines to assist.

    The accident cause a huge knock on effect with disruption around Gildabrook Road in Eccles as well as Worsley junction as traffic was diverted off the Motorway and onto A roads.

    Traffic was slowly released and allowed to flow again after police reopened the third lane of the carriageway, the motorway is now full reopened.

    Please note we are being told that there is increased congestion around Irlam at the time of writing.
