Motorists awoke to a blanket of snow this morning and along with roadworks, it caused bedlam on both motorways and local roads, with parts of the road network descending into chaos.
A vehicle collision on Cadishead Way in Irlam close to Fairhills Road, lead to tailbacks east bound. It is believed that there were no serious injuries.
The snow and ice conditions did not help the temporary traffic lights situation on Trinity Way, with delays causing a knock on effect on Regent Road and the Mancunian Way.
As the rush hour traffic increased, the A6 was gridlocked upon the crescent, with cars struggling to get anywhere quick.
The M60 was temporarily closed southbound from the top of the Flyover near the Trafford Centre, with vehicles held as police dealt with an incident. Traffic was at a standstill for awhile with huge tailbacks around the Worsley junction, but things soon got moving again, albeit slowly.
Elsewhere on the roads, motorists were not faring any better with delays on almost all of the regions motorways, due to either traffic collisions or broken down cars.
Bus services as well as the Metrolink have all had issues this morning. Trams on the Manchester Airport line were part suspended.
