  • WARNINGS TO AVOID THE A580 IF HEADING TO LEIGH AFTER A CRASH LEAVES THE ROAD CLOSED IN BOTH DIRECTIONS

    Motorists are being warned to avoid the East Lancs Road near to the junction with Atherleigh Way, in Leigh after a serious accident between a Lorry and a Car happened at around 10:20am this morning. So if you are heading that way it would be best to take an alternative route if possible. There are huge tailbacks in the area.

    Emergency services including an air ambulance are attending at the scene and there is a road closure on the A580 between Atherleigh Way and the Greyhound Roundabout.

    Motorists are being urged to avoid the area if possible.

    Greater Manchester Police have said:

    “Police were called at around 10.20am today (Tuesday 21 January 2020) to reports of a serious collision involving a car and a lorry on East Lancashire Road, Leigh.

    “Emergency services are at the scene.

    “Road closures are expected to remain in place for the foreseeable future. Follow @OfficialTfGM on twitter for updates.“

     

    A NWAS spokesperson said:

    "We are currently at the scene. We have sent two ambulances, an air ambulance, two rapid response vehicles and one senior commander."
