The 200-year-old, Council owned Ingleside ex-residential care home in Claremont's Oakwood Park has been successfully converted into Salford's first and only birthing centre.

In fact, the fully refurbished and modern, freestanding midwifery-led unit in Salford is the only one of its kind in the whole of Greater Manchester and offers women from across the city, the choice to give birth to their baby in a home from home environment, should they be suitable.

Ingleside will be holding a Coffee Morning this Saturday, April 7th from 11:30am til 1pm so why not pop along and check out the facilities?

Women who have been identified as having a low-risk pregnancy, and who are not expected to require support from a doctor during birth, will now have the option to give birth at Ingleside.

The centre, which is owned by Salford City Council, has been refurbished with the help of a crowdfunding appeal. Local businesses and members of the public donated over £130,000 to help bring the Victorian mansion back to life.

It has been a lot of work to get the building fit for purpose but contractors Seddon have done a fantastic job of restoring and bringing the facility back to life.

Women who would like to book to give birth at Ingleside should discuss this with their midwife at one of their antenatal appointments. Their midwife will be able to discuss their options with them and provide more information about the centre.

Women can also contact Ingleside@boltonft.nhs.uk or follow the centre on Facebook @InglesideSalford for updates and information.

Ingleside will be available for women to give birth 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. The centre will be open to the community between 8.30am-4.30pm Monday-Friday.

So all that is left now is for the first baby to make an entrance, we wish to congratulate all those involved and we wish the staff, families and new Salfordians all the best for the future.
