AN ARTIC BLAST COULD MEAN A DROP IN TEMPERATURES FOR SALFORD AS A REGION OF COLD AIR MOVES IN FROM THE NORTH

For the past few days at least, Salford has basked in relatively warm temperatures with plenty of sunshine to entice us out of our homes and into the locals parks for a spot of that all important exercise, however this sunny period is soon to come to an abrupt end as cold polar winds and wintery weather head our way from the Artic.

Forecasters are predicting the high likelihood of frost across the region but it is not all bad news, Salford is expected to be spared the worst of the wintery weather, with just a small chance of snow falling in the higher areas.

A band of rain this evening will clear southwards introducing colder and windier weather. A second band of patchy rain, sleet and snow will follow overnight introducing very cold air and leading to a widespread and severe frost by dawn. Minimum temperature -5 °C.

Tomorrow morning, the rains clear to make way for plenty of sunshine, but it will feel a lot colder than the past few days as cold in the biting winds cool things down. In general it should remain dry for most, with the odd snow shower being possible in the afternoon. More widespread frost overnight. Maximum temperature 7 °C.

The rest of the week looks like we shall see an unseasonably cold and wintry period, with widespread frosts, so cover any bulbs or small plants.

The Met Office says that there is a likelihood of blustery snow showers near coasts on Tuesday, with brighter spells inland.

Conditions should ease slightly on Wednesday with windy and widespread rain expected on Thursday.

By Friday we should be back to double digits again and things should start to look a little more like Spring.
