  • THE MET OFFICE ISSUES A YELLOW WEATHER WARNING AS 'DENNIS THE MENACE' HEADS OUR WAY

It seems like this past week or so has been an endless list of yellow weather warnings and having only just scraping through the wrath of Ciara the bad news is we get to do it all over again this weekend as 'Dennis The Menace' rolls on in off the Atlantic.

Salford is already under a Yellow Warning for Snow and Ice and now we are about to be hit by the severe winds and rain for the second weekend in a row.

If forecasters predictions are correct we are about to see wind gusts up to 70mph in exposed areas, torrential rain and even a potential for some snow on higher ground as we move into the weekend.

The UK Met Office has already issued a Yellow Alert for Saturday and they are warning that conditions could be treacherous and disruption should be expected for travellers in planes, trains and automobiles.

This past weekend saw flood alerts on the Irwell as parts of Kersal, Charlestown and Broughton held their collective breath to see if the flood defences would keep their homes high and dry, fortunately everything worked to plan and the two flood basins passed the test with capacity to spare.

The good news is Dennis is not expected to be as extreme as its predecessor but it will undoubtedly still bring problems to Salford as it passes over us.

Parts of the UK will feel the first impacts of the storm on Friday as it barrels towards us churning up the waves and hitting coastal areas hard.

Heavy rain falling on the hills could cause some problems as the ground is already sodden and so once again all eyes will be on the river levels this weekend.
